Florida Governor Refuses to Recognize Trans Swimmer’s Win

Florida governor Ron DeSantis has signed a proclamation recognizing runner-up Emma Weyant as the winner of a national college swimming title – in an event she lost to transgender athlete Lia Thomas.

Last week in Atlanta, Thomas became the first known transgender athlete to win the title in the women’s 500-yard freestyle.

DeSantis criticized the National Collegiate Athletic Association for allowing Thomas to compete. “The NCAA is basically taking efforts to destroy women’s athletics,” he said.
