The Visalia Police Department issued 27 citations to drivers and motorcycle riders during a recent motorcycle safety enforcement operation aimed at reducing crashes and improving road safety.
Officers focused on violations that put motorists and riders at risk, including speeding, unsafe lane changes, distracted driving and right-of-way violations, the department said Friday.
Police said the operation comes as more motorcycles are on the road during warmer months. The department urged drivers to watch for motorcycles before turning or changing lanes and reminded riders to follow traffic laws, wear helmets and remain visible.
The Visalia Police Department said motorcycle safety enforcement operations will continue throughout May.
Funding for the program was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
