Six Patients in Visalia Nursing Facility Have Virus, County Says. Two Staff Also Infected.

The Redwood Springs Healthcare Center in Visalia reported six of its patients and two staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.
“The healthcare staff experienced the onset of symptoms while caring for two patients in one room,” a post on the facility’s website said. “Both healthcare professionals and patients are now isolated from the other residents and staff. We are also working in close coordination with county health officials to test and monitor everyone else in the facility.”
“We are thinking about the patients and staff at Redwood Springs,” said, Dr. Karen Haught, Tulare County’s public health officer. “Public health staff are working in close coordination with Redwood Springs Healthcare Center to monitor everyone in the facility.”

Tulare County Reports 2nd COVID-19 Death

The eight newly reported cases are among 59 total confirmed infections in Tulare County.
On Wednesday, the county reported its second fatality related to COVID-19. The patient, whose exposure to the virus was determined to be travel-related, died on Tuesday.
“Public Health extends our deepest condolences to the patient’s family and friends in the wake of this tragedy,” Haught said. “Please protect yourself and your loved ones by staying home.”

Fresno/Clovis Metro Area Has Most of Fresno County Cases

The Fresno County Department of Health now reports a total of 82 confirmed cases, up 14 from Tuesday.
Of those, 66 are patients reside in the Fresno/Clovis metro area.
The cases include 20 travel related infections, 11 attributed to close contact with another infected person and 14 identified as community spread. Another 37 are under investigation.
“Our communicable disease investigator team works very hard to do contact tracing and to figure out exactly how these people might have caught this this disease,” said Dr. Rais Vorha, Fresno County’s interim health officer.
“We’re actively pursuing projects that will help us to really map and geo-locate where these clusters are happening,” he said.

Updates from Other Counties 

Kings County

The Kings County Health Department has four confirmed cases of COVID-19 and continues to monitor 13 others. The county is reporting 87 negative test results.

Kern County

The Kern County Health Department reports 107 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 1 death.
The county is still awaiting the results of 1,254 tests.

Merced County

As of Tuesday, there are 10 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Merced County.

Madera County

The Madera County Dept. of Public Health reported 2 new cases Wednesday.
That brings the total number in the county to 23 active cases. One patient is reported to have recovered and one Madera County patient has died.

Stanislaus County

The Stanislaus County Health Services Agency says they have 40 confirmed cases.

San Joaquin County

The San Joaquin County Public Health Services Department reports 154 cases, and 8 deaths related to COVID-19.
