A portion of G Street in Merced was closed in both directions Friday afternoon as police responded to an incident in the area, the Merced Police Department said.

Northbound and southbound G Street were closed between 21st Street and 23rd Street, according to the department.

Video posted by Merced police on social media showed what appeared to be significant police activity in the area.

Police recommended that drivers avoid the closure and use alternate routes.

The department did not immediately provide additional information about the nature of the police activity or how long the closure was expected to remain in place.
