Can you imagine getting a phone call from Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer saying you just won a new home?

That’s what happened to Varus Kardashian after Dyer pulled his name in the 14th annual Granville Home of Hope fundraiser raffle Wednesday evening.

Kardashian’s prize is a 1,800-square-foot home valued at $350,000 and located in Granville’s gated Canvas Collection neighborhood at Belterra in the Clovis Unified School District.

The home is packed with tech features and designer options and includes furniture donated by Macy’s Furniture Gallery and Fashion Furniture.

One hundred percent of the proceeds go to these nonprofits: Breaking the Chains, Central California Food Bank, Art of Life Cancer Foundation, Fresno Police Chaplaincy, Parents and Addicts In Need, Hinds Hospice, Foundation for Sanger Schools, Foundation for Clovis Schools, and Angels of Grace Foster Family Agency.

$600,000 Raised for Nine Local Nonprofits

There were other big winners, too. The raffle, which sold out for the third consecutive year, raised $600,000 for nine local nonprofits.

Winner Initially Thought It Was a Joke

Dyer identified himself, prompting Kardashian to ask, “Who?”

The chief answered, “Chief Jerry Dyer. You do not have a warrant, but I want you to know you just won a Granville home as part of the Granville Home of Hope. You actually won the home, Varus.”

With KSEE24 airing the exchange live, weathercaster AJ Fox jumped in and confirmed for Kardashian that he was the big winner.

The Granville Home of Hope now has raised more than $5.8 million since 2006.

Fresno Lexus was again a partner in the event and donated a two-year lease on a 2019 Lexus UX that was raffled off on April 24 during a KSEE24 telethon.

Granville Homes produced this video recapping the event.
