A woman was arrested Wednesday after Madera County sheriff’s deputies found a loaded handgun, suspected methamphetamine and other items inside a vehicle that was blocking a roadway in Fairmead, authorities said.

Deputies responded Wednesday morning to the area of Avenue 24 and Road 18 3/4 after receiving a report of a woman asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle blocking the road, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.

During the investigation, deputies found a loaded handgun and a large-capacity magazine inside the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. A records check showed the firearm had been reported stolen out of state.

Deputies also found more than 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, cash and a notebook containing names and dollar amounts that investigators said were consistent with suspected drug sales.

Authorities said the driver was a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm.

The California Highway Patrol responded and conducted field sobriety tests. The woman passed the tests, according to the sheriff’s office.

She was arrested and booked into the Madera County Jail on suspicion of several offenses, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a large-capacity magazine, possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine for sale, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
