Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers met Wednesday for their second and final Michigan Senate debate, trading barbs but adopting a more measured, policy-focused tone than during their first encounter, USA TODAY reported.
El-Sayed has criticized Rogers’ support for President Donald Trump’s policies, including tariffs on Canada and the war in Iran. Rogers has portrayed El-Sayed, a former Wayne County health official, as too far left.
Their earlier debate was marked by personal attacks and frequent interruptions.
The latest exchange came ahead of the Nov. 3 election, when Michigan’s Senate seat could help determine control of Congress’ upper chamber.
