A Fresno man with prior DUI convictions was sentenced Thursday to 30 years to life in prison for a 2022 crash that killed two people, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

Jaime Figueroa, 68, was found guilty of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated with prior convictions and was sentenced by Fresno County Superior Court Judge Heather Mardel Jones.
Figueroa was driving south on Elm Avenue, north of American Avenue, on Nov. 4, 2022, when he crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a Pontiac, the DA’s office said.

The crash killed the driver, Guadalupe Sandoval, 67, and his passenger, Ubaldo Palacio, 64.
A California Highway Patrol investigation found Figueroa’s blood alcohol concentration was .17%, more than twice the legal limit.

Prosecutors said he had two prior DUI convictions from 1999 and 2004.
