The Foundation for Central Schools hosted its 20th annual Warm for Winter event on Friday at Houghton-Kearney K-8 School.
They provided over 2,500 students across Central Unified School District with new spirit sweaters to help them stay warm during the upcoming winter months.
The sweaters were distributed to students at Houghton-Kearney Elementary and other district schools thanks to the foundation’s ongoing efforts and the support of key community partners like Granville Homes and the Assistance League of Fresno.
“It is a partnership on how to help, ultimately, the academic achievement of all the kids in our community. Central Unified is doing a great job, and we’re glad to provide a little bit of assistance on helping to make sure our kids stay warm during the winter months,” Darius Assemi, President/CEO of Granville Homes said when reflecting on the homebuilder’s nearly two-decade partnership with Central Unified.
“It’s incredible to see these kids. They get a smile on their face when they are getting a sweater. We’re again humbled by this partnership and grateful for the work that Central Unified does,” he said.
Serena Dohi, executive director of the Foundation for Central Schools, highlighted the significance of the community’s support.
“We’re deeply thankful for our partnerships. From the start, Granville Homes‘ support has made these events possible. Four years ago, the Assistance League of Fresno joined us, providing new sweaters to one fortunate school through their Operation School Bell program,” Dohi said. “Granville Homes’ Home of Hope program has also given us invaluable chances to raise awareness and funds. We couldn’t do this essential work without them.”
Granville Home of Hope ticket sales are ongoing with the grand prize drawing being pulled on Dec. 4.

“Seeing the smiles on our students’ faces as they received their sweaters is a reminder of why this event is so important,” said Central Unified Superintendent Ketti Davis. “We’re so thankful for the partnerships that help make moments like these possible.”
