Fresno police arrested a 30-year-old man on weapons-related charges after officers said they found a loaded short-barreled rifle inside a backpack he threw into a residential yard.
An officer contacted Julian Garcia near East Kings Canyon Road and South Recreation Avenue after recognizing him as a wanted person, police said.
Garcia was carrying a black backpack with white side stripes and attempted to hand it to a friend before throwing it over a fence into the yard of a home in the 600 block of South Recreation Avenue, according to police.
Garcia was detained and told officers he was on probation.
Officers recovered the backpack and found a loaded short-barreled, bolt-action .22-caliber rifle inside, police said. The firearm had a wooden stock engraved with the words “GAME OVER,” and police said there was no record of its serial number.
Police said Garcia has prior felony convictions and is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Garcia was arrested on weapons-related charges and booked into Fresno County Jail.
