Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff won reelection in Georgia on Tuesday, according to an NBC News projection, with the network calling the race while only about a quarter of the expected vote had been counted.
NBC projected Ossoff as the winner with about 25.3% of the expected vote counted.
Ossoff had 751,607 votes, or 66.1%, compared with 385,342 votes, or 33.9%, for Republican Mike Collins at the time of the projection.
That gave Ossoff a lead of more than 366,000 votes with 1,136,949 votes reported. NBC estimated about 3.35 million votes remained to be counted.
Ossoff entered Election Day as the only Democratic senator seeking reelection in a state President Donald Trump carried in 2024, making Georgia one of the most closely watched Senate contests of the midterms.
The result also protects a seat Democrats could ill afford to lose as they try to overcome Republicans’ Senate majority.
Ossoff substantially outraised Collins during the campaign, bringing in more than $109 million, according to AP.
Ossoff, the incumbent, will return to the Senate for another term.
