Several schools in Oakhurst were placed on lockdown Friday after a bear was reported in the area, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.
Yosemite High School, Oak Creek Intermediate, Oakhurst Elementary, and the Bass Lake School District offices were placed on lockdown as a precaution.
The sheriff’s office initially reported that Yosemite High School and Oak Creek Intermediate were locked down because of a bear on campus before expanding the advisory to include the additional locations.
California Department of Fish and Wildlife officials were notified, and sheriff’s deputies were in the area to help ensure the safety of students and staff, authorities said.
