The City of Fresno has proclaimed Friday, September 25, 2026, as Dolly Parton Day, honoring the late singer, philanthropist, and humanitarian’s legacy of promoting childhood literacy.

The proclamation recognized Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which has provided millions of free, age-appropriate books to children around the world. The program launched in Fresno County in February 2025 and has since mailed more than 168,000 books to more than 15,000 local children.

Fresno officials encouraged residents to honor Parton’s legacy by reading with children and supporting literacy efforts. Parton died on Aug. 25 after a brief battle with cancer.

The city also highlighted First 5 Fresno County and local partners for helping expand access to the program.
