A magnitude 3.1 earthquake struck near Compton in Southern California on Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake was recorded at 1:32 p.m. PT about 2.5 miles south-southeast of Compton.
The quake had a depth of about 8.2 miles, the USGS reported.
The preliminary earthquake data were generated automatically and had not been reviewed by a scientist as of Thursday afternoon.
The earthquake was recorded by 118 stations, with 125 seismic phases reported.
