A social media post threatening students at Le Grand High School prompted a lockdown, a search warrant, and two arrests Wednesday, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office said.

School officials were notified after school hours Wednesday of a possible shooting threat circulating among students on social media. Because students remained on campus for after-school activities, administrators placed the school on a cautionary lockdown until law enforcement arrived.

Deputies determined the post referenced a group of Le Grand High School students and included the statement, “it’s over for y’all,” along with a video showing an individual holding a firearm with an extended magazine, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators identified a suspect and served a search warrant at the suspect’s residence. During the search, investigators found an extended handgun magazine, several other handgun magazines, a large amount of ammunition, and an unregistered firearm.

Detectives arrested Albert Matson, 32, of Planada, on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

A 16-year-old juvenile was also arrested at the residence on suspicion of making terrorist threats, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said law enforcement and school officials have a zero-tolerance policy for threats against students and school staff.
