A 41-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with a stabbing in downtown Visalia that left another man injured, police said.

Ian Young was arrested in Coalinga by detectives with the Visalia Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit. Police said he will be booked on an attempted murder charge.

About the Visalia Stabbing

The stabbing occurred about 11:10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, in the 500 block of East Main Street.

Officers responding to the reported stabbing learned that the victim had already been taken to a local hospital with stab wounds. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Investigators determined that the victim had been involved in a verbal argument with another man before the confrontation escalated into a physical fight, police said. During the fight, the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim.

The department’s Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation, and detectives continued following leads before identifying Young as the suspect, police said.

Detectives located Young in Coalinga and arrested him Thursday.
