A robbery investigation early Monday led to the arrest of a 38-year-old man after officers briefly pursued a vehicle before locating the suspect at a residence in Tulare, according to the Visalia Police Department.
Just after 1 a.m., a Visalia police officer was investigating a robbery in the WinCo parking lot on West Caldwell Avenue when the suspected vehicle was seen driving through the area. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly fled south on Demaree Street at a high rate of speed without headlights.
Police said the pursuit was terminated because of the danger to the public.
Investigators later identified the driver as Jared Wiley, 38. Officers found the suspected vehicle parked at a residence on Dorset Avenue in Tulare.
With assistance from the Tulare Police Department and a K-9 team, officers surrounded the residence and called for the occupants to come outside. Wiley exited the home and was taken into custody without incident.
During a search of the vehicle, officers said they found drug paraphernalia.
Wiley was booked into the Tulare County Pre-Trial Detention Facility on suspicion of evading a peace officer with willful or wanton disregard for public safety, robbery, battery, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of false imprisonment.
