A 45-year-old man was arrested early Sunday after allegedly firing multiple rounds into the air outside a Visalia home, where officers later recovered firearms, ammunition and narcotics during a search, police said.

Officers responded at 1:44 a.m. to the 3000 block of West Tyler Avenue after receiving reports of shots fired outside a residence, according to the Visalia Police Department.

When officers arrived, they surrounded the home and called out the suspect, identified as Timothy Smith, who surrendered without incident, police said.

Investigators found spent shell casings in front of the residence and determined Smith had exited the home with a firearm tucked into his waistband before firing multiple rounds into the air, according to police.

After confirming no one inside the home had been injured, officers obtained and served a search warrant. Police said the search uncovered numerous firearms, ammunition, steroids, a large quantity of psilocybin mushrooms, additional spent shell casings, and evidence of bullet strikes in the home’s ceiling.

Smith was booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm, brandishing a firearm, child endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a short-barreled firearm, and possession of a firearm with an altered or removed serial number.
