The Bakersfield Fire Department and Bakersfield Police Department have seized approximately 7,000 pounds of illegal fireworks and arrested two people as authorities continue enforcement efforts during the July 4 holiday season.

The agencies said the cases involving the two individuals have been submitted to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office for review, the Bakersfield Fire Department said in a statement.

The fire department and police department are working in partnership to enforce laws prohibiting illegal fireworks, which officials say can cause serious injuries, fires, and property loss.

Authorities said their goal is to protect lives, property, and the community through ongoing enforcement and public reporting efforts.

Residents can report illegal fireworks through the city’s online reporting system at BakersfieldCity.us/233/Fire.

Officials urged the public not to call 911 unless there is an immediate threat to life or property.
