Vice President Kamala Harris, who has taken few questions from reporters since President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign last month, will sit with CNN on Thursday for her first extended interview as the Democratic presidential nominee.
The stakes are high for Harris, who will be seeking to rebut Republican claims that she cannot handle an extended grilling from a reporter.
Her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, has said Harris has not done interviews because “she can’t do better than Biden.” (Biden has had a historically light press schedule for a president.) Harris’ supporters have attributed her limited audiences with reporters to the demands of setting up a campaign on the fly.
During one of her brief huddles with journalists, she said she intended to do an interview by the end of August.
She will be joined by her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota.

What Time Is the Interview?
The interview will be broadcast at 9 p.m. Eastern, but is set to be taped earlier Thursday.
Where Will It Be Broadcast?
On CNN.
Will It Be Streamed?
CNN will stream the interview on its website and mobile apps, the network said.
Where Is It Taking Place?
CNN is taping the interview in Savannah, Georgia. In 2020, Biden won Georgia by less than 1 percentage point, and the state is one of the more competitive election battlegrounds this year.
The interview comes as Harris and Walz take a bus tour through the state.
Who Is Conducting the Interview?
Dana Bash, an experienced news anchor with a long history of questioning presidential candidates, will conduct the interview.
Bash, 53, has already played a prominent role in the election: She co-hosted the June 27 debate between Biden and Trump. Biden’s halting debate performance alarmed Democrats and ultimately led to his withdrawal from the race less than four weeks later. (Harris’ last TV interview came almost immediately after the debate, when she took questions from Anderson Cooper on CNN.)
Bash, who anchors CNN’s “Inside Politics” program, was a host at six presidential primary debates in 2016 and two in 2020.
Earlier this month, she interviewed Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio.
