Fresno State football coach Jeff Tedford announced the addition of six scholarship players to the 2024 roster on Monday, including a defensive lineman from USC and two fast wide receivers with proven production at the collegiate level.

This haul from the transfer portal fortifies a team that returns 14 total starters from last season’s 9-4, bowl-winning team: eight on offense, five on defense, and one specialist.

Here is a look at the newest Bulldogs:

Deijon Laffitte, Defensive Lineman

The 6’2, 305-pound Laffitte joins the program as a transfer from USC. He will be playing on the defensive line with another USC transfer, Korey Foreman.

The Ontario, California native redshirted the 2023 season with the Trojans. The 3-star recruit from Colony High School was a 2023 PrepStar All-Western Region selection. As a high school junior, he was selected to the 2021 All-CIF Southern Section Division 9 Team.

RJ Regan, Defensive Back

The 5’ll, 185-pound Regan joins the team as a transfer from Arizona State, spending spent three seasons (2021-23) with the Sun Devils, redshirting in 2021.

The Lakeview, California product has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He’s expected to play nickel back. He played in eight games as a sophomore in 2023, highlighted by four tackles against Cal. He attended Orange Lutheran High School.

Chedon James, Wide Receiver

The 5’10, 175-pound James spent two seasons at Idaho State (2022, 2023) and will join the Bulldogs with two seasons and a redshirt remaining.

As a sophomore in 2023, James started all 11 games for the Bengals. James finished the season as a 1,000 yard receiver, totaling 1,045 yards with eight touchdowns on 102 catches. The Carson, California standout was a first team All-Big Sky selection last season. He led the FCS in total receptions, was fourth in the FCS in receiving yards, and was a Walter Payton Award finalist in 2023. He attended St. John Bosco High School.

Raylen Sharpe, Wide Receiver

The 5’9, 172-pound Sharpe spent time at Missouri State (2022-23) and one season at Houston (2021) . The Allen, Texas athlete will have two seasons of eligibility when arriving at Fresno State.

He was named an FCS All-American and a first team all-conference selection in 2023. He finished with a program record 73 receptions for 991 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 99.1 yards receiving per game in 2023, and ranking No. 3 in the FCS. Sharpe set a program record with six 100-yard receiving games in 2023, amassing 89 receptions for 1,298 yards and eight touchdowns over his career.

While at Houston, he was also a member of the track & field team, earning three Top-10 finishes as a freshman, including a first-place finish in the 4×100 relay.

Additional Transfers

Rounding out the rest of the transfer group is offensive lineman Michael Eneh. The 6’5, 315-pound Eneh joins the team from Tyler Junior College. The Houston native will have two years of eligibility, and a redshirt remaining at Fresno State. He attended Alief Taylor High School.

Clayton Lawrence is a punter from Australia. He has a background in Australian Rules football. He committed to the Bulldogs on Feb. 12, 2024.

Looking Forward to the New Season

The Bulldogs finished last season with a win over New Mexico State in the Isleta New Mexico Bowl. The team was ranked in the AP Top 25 three times in 2023, marking the third-straight season with at least one appearance in the poll.

This season they’re looking to add explosiveness to the offense and build upon an already solid defense.

2024 Tickets

Season tickets are available now. The Bulldogs open the home schedule hosting Sacramento State on Sept. 7, and New Mexico State on Sept. 14.

Washington State comes to Valley Children’s Stadium on Oct. 12. Mountain West play continues with San Jose State (Oct. 26), Hawai’i (Nov. 2), and Colorado State closes out the home slate on Nov. 23.
