The Shoah.

It is the Hebrew term to describe the Holocaust.

It is a time to never forget the six million Jews and six million others who perished at the hands of the Nazis in World War II.

At Fresno High School, a Holocaust exhibit from the Simon Wiesenthal Center is on display at the library. Sue Navarro is the librarian.

“It is getting closer and closer to us here at home now and our students need to know to be able to prevent these things and to be aware of how we treat other people. It’s a big part of what we teach at Fresno High: to be a person of integrity a person who is an upstander—who stands up for other people.”

This day, a class from Scandinavian Middle School visited and learned something they may have not known before.

For Logan, a seventh grader, he did not have much exposure to one of the worst tragedies in human history.  “The Holocaust? Really not much.”

For eight grader Nitara, she took the lesson to heart. “I didn’t really know about anything until I just got here and it was sad”

“We shouldn’t be judging people for their religion or anything like race,” said eight grader Samantha.

“Some of the students are disturbed by the images of course, they’re very graphic. Some of them cannot believe how this kind of thing can happen,” Navarro said.

The exhibit is open to the public and runs through Friday, April 28.

Curiosity drives David Taub. The award-winning journalist might be shy, but feels mighty with a recorder in his hand. He doesn't see it his job to "hold public officials accountable," but does see it to provide readers (and voters) the information needed to make intelligent choices. Taub has been honored with several writing awards from the California News Publishers Association. He's just happy to have his stories read. Joining GV Wire in 2016, Taub covers politics, government and elections, mainly in the Fresno/Clovis area. He also writes columns about local eateries (Appetite for Fresno), pro wrestling (Off the Bottom Rope), and media (Media Man). Prior to joining the online news source, Taub worked as a radio producer for KMJ and PowerTalk 96.7 in Fresno. He also worked as an assignment editor for KCOY-TV in Santa Maria, California, and KSEE-TV in Fresno. He has also worked behind the scenes for several sports broadcasts, including the NCAA basketball tournament, and the Super Bowl. When not spending time with his family, Taub loves to officially score Fresno Grizzlies games. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Taub is a die-hard Giants and 49ers fan. He graduated from the University of Michigan with dual degrees in communications and political science. Go Blue! You can contact David at 559-492-4037 or at Send an Email
