Local Reaction to Sunday’s Shooting
In a statement released Monday morning, Fresno Mayor Lee Brand promised that “those responsible for this horrific crime will face the full force of justice.”
Brand went on to say that City Hall would “add whatever resources that are necessary to find those responsible.”
“This senseless tragedy does not define us — rather, our response and unity as a community will and I have complete confidence in our collective resolve.” —Fresno Mayor Lee Brand
Retired Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer, who is running to succeed Brand, also issued a statement.
“I am very confident the men and women of the Fresno Police Department will solve this horrendous crime very quickly and bring those responsible to justice,” Dyer said. “May God bring comfort to the families impacted by this tragedy.”
Dyer also said, “I know firsthand the impact these types of incidents have on the families, the community, and those who responded to the scene. I encourage everyone to be in prayer for them.”
In Twitter posts on Sunday, mayoral candidate Andrew Janz, a Fresno County prosecutor, also said that the shooters would be held to account for their killings. He said that he was praying for peace and calm.
Thank you to those who have reached out in support of #Fresno. The shooting is still under investigation. We are told at least four people have been killed. Rest assured we will bring those responsible to justice. – AJ
