The Central California Blood Center needs blood following a mass shooting in southeast Fresno that killed four men and critically injured six other people Sunday.

In a social media post on Monday morning, the center asked that all eligible blood donors give today or a soon as possible to alleviate a blood shortage.

At 5 p.m. Monday, a blood center official told GV Wire that while donations had been steady throughout the day, more blood was still needed.

Local Reaction to Sunday’s Shooting

In a statement released Monday morning, Fresno Mayor Lee Brand promised that “those responsible for this horrific crime will face the full force of justice.”
Brand went on to say that City Hall would “add whatever resources that are necessary to find those responsible.”

Said the mayor: “This senseless tragedy does not define us — rather, our response and unity as a community will and I have complete confidence in our collective resolve.”
Retired Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer, who is running to succeed Brand, also issued a statement.
“I am very confident the men and women of the Fresno Police Department will solve this horrendous crime very quickly and bring those responsible to justice,” Dyer said. “May God bring comfort to the families impacted by this tragedy.”
Dyer also said, “I know firsthand the impact these types of incidents have on the families, the community, and those who responded to the scene.  I encourage everyone to be in prayer for them.”
In Twitter posts on Sunday, mayoral candidate Andrew Janz, a Fresno County prosecutor, also said that the shooters would be held to account for their killings. He said that he was praying for peace and calm.
