COVID-19 infections pushed past 600 confirmed cases in Tulare County in the past 24 hours, health officials said Wednesday. The updated case count was reported on the county health department’s website and in a Facebook video.

The 48 new cases represent the largest single-day jump in confirmed infections for the county. On Tuesday, the number of confirmed cases increased by 46.

Health officials also reported one additional death from COVID-19 on Wednesday, raising Tulare County’s total to 36. Outbreaks at three South Valley nursing homes are contributing to Tulare County’s caseload and death toll.

The higher number of new cases Wednesday included large batch results from commercial testing labs as well as additional confirmed infections at nursing homes and businesses, said health department spokeswoman Tammie Weyker-Adkins.

Fresno County Cases Rise Above 500

In Fresno County, the number of confirmed infections rose to 538 on Wednesday. The city of Fresno has experienced the highest number of cases by far, with 285. At least 16 cases in the city are associated with recently reported COVID-19 outbreaks at a pair of Fresno nursing homes. The facilities are operated by Dycora Transitional Health & Living.

The cities of Sanger and Clovis have the next highest number of cases with 39 and 38 respectively.

The Fresno County Department of Public Health reports that 329 of the area’s confirmed cases are active, with 97 patients now hospitalized. A total of seven COVID-19 related deaths have been reported countywide. The county’s website reports 202 previously infected patients have recovered from the virus.
