Community Regional Medical Centers received a much needed donation of N95 respirator masks on Thursday.
Fresno-based Electronic Recyclers International made the contribution after one of the company’s workers discovered the excess inventory in a closet. The donation includes approximately 300 of the medical quality masks.

The donated surgical masks were discovered by company employees in a storage closet. (GV Wire/Jim Jakobs)
John Shegerian, co-founder and executive chairman of ERI hopes this donation will “inspire other companies and individuals” in the Fresno region to step up and do the same.
Shegarian said his company chose CRMC because many of the other area hospitals send their high priority patients there.

Personal Protective Equipment in Short Supply

According to the FDA, N95 respirators and surgical masks (face masks) are examples of personal protective equipment used to protect the wearer from airborne particles and from liquids contaminating the face.
The FDA has said that as the COVID-19 outbreak continues to expand globally, the supply chain for these vital items will continue to be stressed.

CRMC Says More Donations Needed

Community Medical Centers officials said they are grateful for the donation and are hopeful people and businesses can help with more. The hospital released a list of other needed items, including:

  • Safety eyewear and face shields
  • Non-latex gloves
  • Long sleeve gowns or coveralls (industrial use okay)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Bleach (liquid or wipes)
  • Antimicrobial wipes
  • Cleaning supplies

Donated items must be new, unused, and in original packaging. The hospital is unable to accept donations of food, clothing, blankets, pillows, damaged or opened items.
Those wishing to donate should email: CMCdonations@communitymedical.org. Donations can also be dropped off at CRMC’s downtown Fresno hospital Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
