TV news anchor Alexan Balekian and KSEE 24 have parted ways, Media Man has learned.

The station sent employees an email earlier this month saying Balekian was no longer with the station.

A Fresno native and Fresno State grad, Balekian worked two stints at KSEE, the Nexstar-owned NBC affiliate. He worked as a sportscaster from 2004 until 2009.

After a stint as a sports talk show host on KMJ radio, Balekian moved to Phoenix, where he joined Arizona Cardinals broadcasts as a host. He returned to TV news in Roanoke, Virginia, this time covering politics instead of sports.

Balekian returned to KSEE in 2018, where he served as the main TV news anchor along with Stefanie Booroojian. The station dubbed them “the only Armenian anchor team in the country.”

Balekian said he couldn’t comment on the situation, but he would say more at a later date.

Messages to the station were not returned.

Also Hosted Sunday Morning Matters

In addition to anchoring the news, Balekian hosted and produced the political show “Sunday Morning Matters.”

He interviewed a who’s who of local and national politicians on what was one of the more influential local political programs.

The show was on hiatus from June 2023 until last month. After a few weeks of hosting, Balekian disappeared, and the format slightly changed with Booroojian filling in. The show was truncated from an hour to 30 minutes. Instead of interviews, Booroojian anchored previously aired political stories.

Balekian’s last broadcast was on Feb. 18, hosting “Sunday Morning Matters.”
