A Clovis woman was arrested on multiple felony charges after allegedly driving under the influence, striking a pedestrian, and fleeing the scene before being stopped by police Thursday night, authorities said.

Officers responded just after 10 p.m. to the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Brookhaven Drive following reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, according to the Clovis Police Department.

The first officer to arrive instructed the driver, an adult woman, to remain at the scene while officers attempted life-saving measures on an adult male who was lying in the roadway. Police said the driver fled in a Toyota Camry during the response but was stopped and arrested a short distance away.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital and remained in critical condition Friday morning, police said.

Police identified the driver as Francis Portillo, 45, of Clovis. Portillo was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI, felony hit-and-run, evading officers and possession of a controlled substance.
