A man wanted in an attempted murder investigation in Mariposa County was taken into custody Wednesday morning during a coordinated law enforcement operation, according to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Jonathan Mishael Bays, 41, was located during an operation in which deputies and assisting officers saturated known homeless encampments in the area. Officials said additional updates will be released as the investigation continues.
Earlier Wednesday morning, deputies had been actively searching for Bays in the area of Highway 49 North from Highway 140 to Frank Wilson Road following a reported dispute at the Creekside Apartments. Law enforcement had deployed drones and helicopters during the search.
Investigators said Bays was wanted in connection with an attempted murder that occurred Saturday night at the Creekside Apartments in Mariposa, where a victim was struck in the hand, wrist, shoulder, and head with a sword during an attack.
After the attack, he was seen fleeing the apartments on foot towards a trail.
