Fresno Police to Conduct Weekend DUI Checkpoint

The Fresno Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint on Feb. 22 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. at an undisclosed location, they said in a statement.

Checkpoint locations are determined based on data highlighting areas with high rates of impaired driving crashes.

The department said the primary goal is to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.

Authorities reminded drivers that impairment extends beyond alcohol, cautioning that some prescription and over-the-counter medications can affect driving.

While recreational and medicinal marijuana use is legal in California, driving under its influence remains illegal.

A first-time DUI conviction can result in fines and penalties averaging $13,500, along with a suspended driver’s license, police said.
