A woman was killed in a dog mauling Monday afternoon near the 46000 block of Road 417 in Coarsegold, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responding to a 3:30 p.m. emergency call found the victim dead at the scene. The dogs involved in the attack were identified and contained at that time, pending removal by animal control.

The owner of the dogs is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, authorities said.

Later that evening, authorities said two of the dogs escaped containment during their transfer to animal control. Deputies put one of the animals down, while the other, a large white pit bull mix, remains at large.

Residents in the area are urged to remain vigilant and avoid approaching loose dogs.

Authorities ask anyone who spots a large white pit bull mix running loose to call 911 immediately.
