On Wednesday at about 1:05 p.m., officers responded to a report of a traffic collision involving a car that crashed into two homes near the intersection of Pomegranate and Hacienda streets, the Madera Police Department said in a statement.

Officers located the car, which had jumped the curb and struck the corner of one residence before colliding with the wall of another home.

Fortunately, no occupants inside the homes were injured; however, both properties sustained damage.

The driver fled the scene on foot, prompting officers to search the area.

Shortly after, Alexander Perez Diaz, 19, was identified as the driver.

After providing a breath sample nearly twice the legal Blood Alcohol Concentration limit of .08, Diaz was arrested.

Further investigation revealed that the car had been stolen in Madera County before Diaz drove into the houses.

Diaz was booked into Madera County Jail for alleged DUI, hit-and-run, vehicle theft, and a probation violation, authorities said.
