Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky was the lone Republican to vote against a resolution that reaffirmed American support “for the Iranian citizens who have taken to the streets in peaceful protest for their fundamental human rights, and (condemned) the Iranian security forces for their violent response.”

Most importantly, Senate Resolution 47, which passed with bipartisan support, doesn’t call for American boots on the ground in Iran.

Even though Paul is an isolationist, it’s hard to fathom why he would oppose a declaration that the international community hold Iran’s human rights violators accountable for their murderous actions.
