Fresno firefighters responded just after 12 p.m. to reports of a possible house fire in the 1100 block of East San Ramon Avenue, where crews observed a visible column of smoke while en route and requested additional resources.

Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from a single-story home, with flames beginning to extend to a neighboring residence, the Fresno Fire Department reported. Crews launched an aggressive fire attack and were able to stop the spread.

During the incident, firefighters were told a person might have been inside the home. A thorough search was conducted, and no occupants were found. Firefighters also rescued multiple kittens from the residence.

Crews faced additional challenges due to the condition of the structure. One firefighter was injured after falling into an open hole in the living room floor, and their condition is being evaluated.

The home sustained significant damage, while the neighboring house experienced minimal impact due to the quick response. A total of 34 firefighters responded, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
