According to reporting by Middle East Monitor, an Israeli newspaper owned by major Trump donor Miriam Adelson has published details of a secret Mossad unit allegedly created in 2021 to conduct influence operations inside Iran.

Israel Hayom reported that the unit was established under Mossad chief David Barnea and tasked with using psychological warfare, media leaks, social media campaigns, and artificial intelligence-generated influencers to undermine the Iranian government.

Middle East Monitor reported that Israel Hayom cited the case of former Iranian official Rostam Ghasemi, alleging Mossad released a years-old photograph of him with a woman not wearing a hijab during nationwide unrest in 2022. The report said Ghasemi resigned days later.

The newspaper also reported that Mossad developed networks of fictitious online accounts, sought to influence Iranian public opinion and used images of alleged agents operating inside Iran as part of broader efforts aimed at weakening confidence in the state.
