Two Clovis schools with elementary students on their campus were locked down Tuesday morning while police pursued a suspect in connection with a nearby neighborhood incident.

Clovis police around 9:30 a.m. were called to the area of Sunnyside and Shaw avenues about a man who was allegedly trying to steal a car at an apartment complex.

Police said the suspect ran off toward Clovis Avenue and onto the Sierra Vista Elementary school campus, where officers eventually detained him.

Sierra Vista Elementary, located at the southwest corner of Pollasky and Barstow avenues, was placed on a brief lockdown due to the police activity on campus.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH), a private school located a couple of blocks north of Sierra Vista, also was placed on a brief lockdown out of precaution.

Both lockdowns were lifted as soon as it was determined to be safe.

In addition, Clovis Unified said Clark Intermediate briefly entered a shelter-in-place order because of police activity in the area. That campus was also cleared and returned to regular operations.

Clovis police used its Drone First Responder (DFR) to help locate and arrest the suspect. A Fresno Police Department helicopter also assisted in the apprehension.

Suspect Isaac Paradise, an 18-year-old from Clovis, was booked into Fresno County Jail and faces several felonies.

Police said that during a search of the suspect’s property, officers located evidence from another attempted grand theft of a vehicle in a neighboring apartment complex.

All stolen property has also been returned to the victims, according to police.
