A Fresno man was sentenced Friday to 179 years to life in state prison for repeatedly sexually abusing two minor family members over several years, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office said.
Jorge Dominguez Moreno, 46, was sentenced to four years and four months in prison, followed by 175 years to life, by Fresno County Superior Court Judge Alvin Harrell.
A jury convicted Moreno on Sept. 1 on all 10 counts, along with multiple-victim enhancements and all aggravating factors. His trial began Aug. 17.
Prosecutors said the convictions stemmed from years of sexual abuse involving Moreno’s stepdaughter and step-granddaughter, beginning when both victims were children.
The abuse included repeated sexual assaults, including rape and other forcible sexual offenses, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
“The District Attorney’s Office recognizes the courage it takes for survivors of childhood sexual abuse to come forward and participate in the pursuit of justice,” prosecutors said in a statement. “We commend these survivors for their courage.”
Moreno will be eligible for consideration under California’s Elderly Parole Program after serving 20 years of his sentence and reaching age 50, according to prosecutors.
Eligibility for the program does not guarantee release.
