The 2026-27 preseason media poll for both men’s and women’s basketball was released Thursday.

Fresno State was not viewed favorably in either sport.

The Bulldogs men’s basketball team, which will field an entirely new roster from a season ago, was predicted to finish last in the nine-team Pac-12. The poll was voted on by a panel of the league’s media members.

Fresno State, entering its third season under coach Vance Walberg, finished last season 13-19 overall and 7-13 in the school’s final year in the Mountain West.

Fresno State will open its season Monday against Fresno Pacific. Opening tip is 6 p.m. from the Save Mart Center. The Bulldogs lost their exhibition opener against Fullerton State, 96-78, Saturday at home.

Bulldogs guard Ross Candelino and forward Bradey Heinge each were named to the Pac-12’s Preseason Impact List.

Candelino, a 6-foot-5 redshirt senior, spent the past two seasons at Lipscomb and averaged 11.2 points and 5.2 rebounds last season.

Henige, a 7-foot junior, played the past two years at California Baptist, and averaged 4.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game a year ago. He shot 53.5% from the field.

Gonzaga Favored to Win Men’s Title

Gonzaga (31-4 overall last season, 16-2 in West Coast Conference) was a unanimous pick to win the Pac-12, receiving all 17 first-place votes.

Utah State (29-7, 15-5 Mountain West), the only Mountain West team to reach the NCAA Tournament last season, was predicted to finish second in the newly formed Pac-12.

San Diego State (22-11, 14-6), last season’s Mountain West runner-up, was selected to place third.

Gonzaga Favored on the Women’s Side, Too

On the women’s side, the Bulldogs were picked to finish seventh out of nine teams in the Pac-12 women’s basketball preseason media poll.

The Bulldogs return four players for coach Ryan McCarthy’s second season. Fresno State finished 15-18 overall and 8-12 in Mountain West play for seventh place out of 12 teams.

Bulldogs guard Lola Donez and forward Ashlyn Rean each were named to the Pac-12 Preseason Impact List.

Rean averaged 12.6 points and 7 rebounds for Fresno State last season but suffered a season-ending injury that limited her to six games.

Fresno State’s season opener is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday against UC Merced at the Save Mart Center.

Gonzaga (24-10 last season, 14-4 in West Coast Conference) was predicted to finish first in the Pac-12, receiving 16 of 19 votes.

Oregon State (23-12, 13-5 in WCC) was predicted to place second and received one vote for first place.

San Diego State (27-6, 19-1), which won the Mountain West last season, also received a pair of first-place votes and was predicted to finish third.

Colorado State (27-8, 15-5), which was the only Mountain West team to reach the NCAA Tournament last season, was picked fourth in the Pac-12.
