A man was arrested Friday after allegedly firing three shots at a woman attempting to flee a domestic violence incident, the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office said.

John Paul Alvarado allegedly threatened to kill the woman as she attempted to escape in her vehicle, according to authorities.

Alvarado left the residence shortly after the shooting, deputies said.

Deputies later located his vehicle traveling through town and conducted a felony traffic stop on Highway 49 South near Ashworth Road.

Alvarado was taken into custody without further violence.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and faces multiple additional charges, authorities said.
