An investigation that began with a reported cargo theft in Kerman led authorities to recover an estimated $400,000 worth of stolen almonds and arrest at least four people, the Kerman Police Department said.

Officers responded on Tuesday morning to a report that a cargo shipment containing the almonds had been stolen.

Kerman police detectives began investigating and developed information indicating the stolen cargo had been transported to an area in San Joaquin County. Detectives contacted law enforcement agencies there and provided information about people believed to be in the area.

Detectives with the California Highway Patrol Delta Regional Auto Theft Task Force and the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office continued the investigation and located and recovered the stolen cargo.

At least four people were arrested by assisting agencies, according to Kerman police.
