The Kern County Sheriff’s Office rescued an injured motorcycle rider Sunday from a remote off-highway vehicle area northeast of Sand Canyon, officials said.

At about 1:15 p.m., the sheriff’s Search and Rescue helicopter Air-5 responded from the department’s hangar after the Kern County Fire Department requested assistance.

Fire personnel were trying to reach an injured rider but ground emergency medical crews could not access the area because of challenging terrain.

Air-5 located the rider, who had suffered minor injuries, and conducted a hoist operation to remove the person from the remote location.

The helicopter then transported the rider to a waiting ambulance at Highway 14 and Pine Tree Canyon Road.

The rider was transferred to Hall Ambulance and taken to a local emergency room for treatment.
