A 28-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after police said he fled the scene of a collision that injured a pedestrian in Parlier.

Parlier police officers were dispatched about 7:35 a.m. to the intersection of Tulare and Bigger streets after receiving a report of an injured person lying in the roadway.

Officers determined that a 49-year-old Parlier resident had been struck by a vehicle while crossing the street, police said. The driver left the scene before officers arrived.

The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

During the investigation, a Parlier police officer located the vehicle involved in the collision and its driver. The 28-year-old Parlier resident, identified as Jozmar Cardenas Espana by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.

Police said alcohol or drugs do not appear to have contributed to the collision.
