Two of Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s newest babies are making their public habitat debuts, including a Masai giraffe calf and a Malayan tapir calf, the zoo announced Friday.
Sienna, a female Masai giraffe born Aug. 18, has begun exploring the African Adventure habitat and has settled in with the zoo’s giraffe herd.
The calf was named Sienna in reference to the distinctive color of her fur when she was born. Zoo officials said she has taken after her mother, Siku, by being observant and perceptive of her surroundings.
Winston, a male Malayan tapir born July 11, is also becoming familiar with his habitat in Kingdoms of Asia.
Winston typically stays close to his mother, Ulan, but has become more adventurous as his confidence grows, according to the zoo. The pair can be seen swimming in their grotto, eating leaves, and napping in the sunshine.
Zoo officials said mornings offer the best opportunity for visitors to see the two babies.
Sienna and Winston may not be visible every day because they can choose whether to enter their public habitats or remain behind the scenes.
Updates on the zoo’s newest arrivals will also be posted on Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s social media channels.
