A Huron gang member was arrested after running from officers near Keck Park, where police later found a loaded firearm in a nearby backyard, the Coalinga Police Department said.
Officers were patrolling near the park about 9:12 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, when they saw two men dressed in black clothing and wearing ski masks, police said.
When the men saw officers, one began running while holding his waistband, according to police.
Officers located and detained the man in the 300 block of Jackson Street. Police searched the area where he had been running and found a loaded firearm in a resident’s backyard. The gun was collected and booked into evidence.
Police identified the man as Francisco Lopez of Huron. The department described Lopez as a documented associate of the Huron Parkside Norteno Gang.
Lopez was taken to the Coalinga Police Department for processing before being transported to the Fresno County Jail.
Police said Lopez was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm while not being its registered owner, carrying a loaded firearm as a gang member, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, and possessing a large-capacity magazine.
