Modesto police say officers seized approximately 60 pounds of methamphetamine, along with firearms and drug-related items, following a traffic stop and subsequent search warrant last week.

According to the Modesto Police Department, officers conducted an enforcement stop near Kansas Avenue and southbound Highway 99 with assistance from an officer and his K-9 partner. A positive alert from the police dog led officers to discover a substantial amount of methamphetamine inside the vehicle. The driver was arrested without incident.

Based on evidence recovered during the stop, investigators obtained a search warrant for a related residence. Members of the Modesto Narcotics Enforcement Team, detectives from the Property Crimes Unit, and patrol officers served the warrant.

Police said they seized about 60 pounds of methamphetamine, firearms, packaging materials, and drug paraphernalia.

Authorities identified the suspects as Michael Randell Haney, 63, of Modesto, who was driving the vehicle, and Miguel Salvado Torres Hernandez, 32, of San Jose, who was a passenger.

Both men were booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine for sale, transportation of methamphetamine for sale, and possession of more than 20 kilograms of methamphetamine.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
