The Mountain West, Pac-12, and involved universities — including Fresno State — announced on Tuesday a settlement among all parties, clearing the way for the upcoming football season.

After Fresno State and several other schools, including Boise State, Colorado State, Utah State, and San Diego State, announced they would leave the Mountain West for the vacated Pac-12, the conference demanded exit fees for ending the contract early and for poaching fees against the Pac-12.

The Mountain West wanted as much as $150 million from the exiting universities and the competing Pac-12, according to CBS Sports.

CBS Sports estimated the exit fees at roughly $20 million each per school.

The joint statement indicates that all litigation would be completed under the settlement.

The statement reads as follows:

“The Mountain West Conference, the Pac-12 Conference, Boise State University, Colorado State University, Utah State University, and The Board of Trustees of the California State University for the benefit of San Diego State University and California State University, Fresno have reached final agreements to settle all pending litigation among the parties. With these matters concluded, the conferences and institutions can move forward with certainty and focus on serving their student-athletes, campuses, fans, and communities.”

Terms of the settlement were not disclosed. Fresno State did not respond to a request for comment disclosing the cost to the university.

All Pac-12 Football Games Broadcast Nationally

Fresno State will have its first football game this season Sept. 4 at USC. Fresno State officially entered the Pac-12 July 1.

The Pac-12 now includes seven full-time schools. Defections of high-profile programs such as USC, Oregon, Washington, and UCLA and other members to the Big 10, Big 12, and Atlantic Coast Conference left it with just two schools, Washington State and Oregon State, ahead of the 2024 season.

With the Pac-12, all conference football games will be broadcast nationally over the air via CBS and The CW. Cable networks CBS Sports Network and USA Network will also broadcast games, according to a news release from the organization last month.

More than 70% of men’s basketball games will be broadcast across the same networks and women’s basketball will get 15 regular season games broadcast via the CW and five to 10 games broadcast via USA Network.
