The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 49-year-old Fresno man Monday night on southbound Golden State Boulevard, south of Central Avenue.

CHP officers responded at about 10:19 p.m. to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. Personnel from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and CalFire also responded.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to CHP, the preliminary investigation indicates the man was walking in the roadway when he was struck by one or more vehicles. Investigators believe, based on evidence collected at the scene, that one of the involved vehicles may have been a white 2018-2023 Toyota Camry.

The vehicle or vehicles involved in the crash fled before law enforcement arrived.

Later that night at about 11 p.m., the Fresno Police Department responded to a vehicle fire at Jensen and Maple avenues. Investigators recovered the burned vehicle, a white 2008 Infiniti G37, as potential evidence. CHP investigators are working to determine whether the Infiniti was involved in the fatal crash.

The investigation remains ongoing as CHP reviews surveillance footage and other investigative leads to identify the involved vehicles and drivers.
