A tanker truck overturned early Thursday on Highway 33 north of Manning Avenue, spilling approximately 1,000 gallons of fertilizer and forcing a full roadway closure, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol’s Coalinga office received the report at about 6:12 a.m. and responded to find an overturned truck tractor pulling a tanker trailer on northbound Highway 33, according to California Highway Patrol.
Emergency personnel located the sole occupant of the vehicle, who suffered major injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. Officials said the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The tanker leak released an estimated 1,000 gallons of fertilizer following the collision. Caltrans established a hard closure of Highway 33 in both directions between Adams Avenue and Manning Avenue while cleanup and investigation efforts continue.
Environmental Health personnel are also assisting with the hazardous materials response on scene.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area, use alternate routes, and follow directions from emergency crews. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
