The city of Fresno has opened the application process for its Measure P arts and culture grants.
The resumption comes after the fund’s former administrator, the Fresno Arts Council, was rocked by a $1.8 million embezzlement that included the theft of taxpayer funds.
Each year, 12% of Measure P funding is dedicated to competitive grants that help strengthen Fresno’s arts and cultural landscape while increasing access and opportunities for residents and visitors. The remainder of the three-eighths-of-a-cent sales tax funding goes to parks, recreation, and community services.
This cycle of arts and culture grants offers funding for project support and general operating expenses for local nonprofits.
Deadlines
Those interested in applying must first complete an eligibility screening form due by 3 p.m. on Aug. 15. Final applications are due at 3 p.m. on Sept. 30.

Embezzler Pleads Guilty
Following a plea agreement, former Fresno Arts Council manager Suliana Caldwell pled guilty in April to one count of wire fraud connected to the embezzlement. She is scheduled for sentencing in federal court on Aug. 10.
