A year-old Shih Tzu mix with a rough start in life is now looking for a forever home after being rescued from an orchard and embraced by a surrogate dog family that took him in as one of their own.

Pepino, a friendly young dog, was reportedly dumped in a remote orchard where he struggled to survive before finding refuge at a nearby home that also cared for a mother dog and her litter of puppies.

The mother dog accepted Pepino as part of her own litter, giving him a sense of comfort and belonging during a difficult chapter. Rescuers say the arrangement may have left him with a bit of an identity crisis, as he now behaves as if he is one of the puppies in the family.

When animal rescuers arrived to save the mother dog and her puppies, they made sure not to leave Pepino behind.

Pepino has quickly shown his affectionate personality, described as extremely people-friendly and eager for attention. He enjoys sitting on laps and staying close to anyone willing to give him affection.

He also gets along well with other dogs, making him a good candidate for a multi-pet household. Rescuers describe him as a sweet, social “gem” of a dog ready for adoption.

Prospective adopters must submit an adoption application for review to ensure the best match for each pup.
