Fresno police arrested a 39-year-old woman following a domestic disturbance early Monday involving multiple children, according to the Fresno Police Department.

Officers responded to the scene around 1:00 a.m. where they contacted a 13-year-old victim and another victim who reported that Johnna Slater had physically assaulted them inside a residence, police said.

Police said Slater appeared to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and retreated into the home with two additional minor children, ages 11 and 3, refusing repeated lawful commands to exit for about 15 minutes.

Due to concerns for the immediate safety of the children and Slater’s prior violent actions, officers forced entry into the residence, according to police. Slater was found inside a locked master bedroom with the children and was taken into custody without incident after refusing further commands to surrender.

Police said the victims reported Slater punched one victim in the face, scratched and struck another during the altercation, and later struck a victim multiple times with a metal toy stroller outside the residence.

Slater was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of child abuse with possible great bodily injury, child abuse without great bodily injury, battery, and resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer.

Due to the nature of the case, the Fresno Police Department was unable to confirm the relationship between the woman and the children.
